My matte painting or set extension workflow begins with blocking in Blender, where I establish structure and lighting, sometimes creating terrains in GAEA for added realism. I use plugins like Alpha Tree or Bagapie to scatter vegetation and populate the scene effectively.
Once the scene is structured, I export individual layers to Photoshop for detailed touch-ups, color adjustments, and final refinements. This ensures every element is polished and cohesive before preparing the final composition for integration in Nuke.
